Welcome to OMS Student Services!
Here at OMS we have two school counselors. Mrs. Brummel primarily works with students A-L, and Mrs. Ferguson M-Z. As school counselors they work with students in three domains; social emotional learning, career readiness, and academics.
They provide instruction for all students on career readiness skills, and meet with students to focus on improving mental health and behavioral symptoms through individual and group counseling and education.

What is the difference between a school counselor and a school psychologist?
School counselors focus more on improving mental health and behavioral symptoms through individual and group counseling and education. Typically, they serve the entire school population. School psychologists focus on understanding behavioral symptoms and academic issues via testing, researching, and assessing.
What is the difference between a school counselor and an outside therapist?
School Counselors meet with students on an individual basis to deal with crisis management and problem-solving. An outside therapist will provide more intensive, individualized, and ongoing therapy.
At OMS, we have a facility dog that works with Mrs. Ferguson. His role at the school is to increase empathy and compassion by assisting in working with students that have anger management issues, bullying behavior and other anti-social conduct. He has been a great asset to our school and has assisted in the following:
Improves self-esteem by assisting with students that are targets of potential bullying behavior.
Help students stay connected with other students by assisting them in learning social skills.
Increases attendance in students that might be given a responsibility with the dog.
What is the difference between a School Facility Dog, a Therapy Dog, and an Emotional Support Dog?
Humans have had positive bonds with canines since the beginning of time. They have used them in work, companionship, and safety. Because they are such popular animals we see them in a variety of places doing a variety of jobs. Although all dogs have important roles, there are important distinctions between them and legal differences. Learn more by clicking the Dogs in Schools box below.
