We are excited to share that the Oskaloosa Middle School renovation project, which has been in progress all summer, will be ready to welcome students on the first day of school, Monday, August 25. These improvements are designed to create a safer, more accessible, and more welcoming environment for our students, staff, and families, enhancing both security and the overall learning experience.
We also plan to debut the updated front entrance during our Open House on Thursday, August 21, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. We can’t wait for you to see the changes that will serve our school community for years to come.
What Parents Should Know:
Safe to Occupy: The building will have temporary occupancy approval from inspectors, meaning it meets all safety and security standards for students and staff.
Open Areas: All classrooms, offices, and learning spaces will be ready to use. Students will enter through the main front doors on the first day. The West Gym will also be open.
Continuing Work:
Some exterior work around the gyms will continue for several weeks.
Interior finishing, such as flooring in the commons, wall protection, and window shades, will be installed after school starts, and will be scheduled during times where it will not interfere with student learning.
Temporary solutions will be in place until materials arrive, to ensure safety of students and staff.
Why Some Work Remains: Supply chain delays have extended delivery times for some products, such as doors and fire glass, despite early ordering. These items are not safety-related and will be installed as soon as they arrive.
Project Purpose: This renovation strengthens secure entry, improves safety, separates wellness and office spaces, and brings new life to our learning environment. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we finish the final details.
