Students are responsible for the general care of the device. Devices that are in need of repair must be taken to the Technology Department’s Help Desk in their building.

These guidelines should be followed closely at all times:

Students should not have food or drink next to their device.
Students should take extreme care when inserting cords, cables, and removable storage devices into their device.
Students should never carry their device while the screen is open unless directed to do so by a teacher. If directed by a teacher, the device should be supported from the bottom of the case.
Students should never carry their device by the screen.
Students should never shove or wedge their device into a locker or book bag.
Students should never expose their device to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight. Extreme heat or cold may cause damage to the device.
Students should always bring their device to room temperature prior to turning it on.
Students should not place any stickers or make any engravings in the device.
Chargers should be kept away from pets that may chew cords and away from doors or objects that may damage or pinch the cables.

Carrying the Device

All take home devices include a padded protective case and should be used at all times when transporting the device. The protective case will only provide basic protection from everyday hazards. It is not designed to prevent all damage from drops or abusive handling.

Screen Care
The device screen can be damaged if subjected to rough treatment. Always follow these guidelines for proper screen care:

Do not lean on top of the device.
Do not place anything near the device that could put pressure on the screen.
Do not place anything in the carrying case that will press against the cover.
Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, notebooks).
Clean the screen with a soft, dry anti-static, or micro-fiber cloth. Do not use window cleaner, water, or any type of liquid on the device not specifically designed for cleaning laptop computer screens.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in device damage and parents/guardians being responsible for the full cost of the repair or replacement.

Personalizing the Device
Devices must remain free of any writing, drawing, or stickers. An identification label with the student’s name is acceptable on the bottom of the device. This identification label cannot cover any vented areas. Spot checks for compliance may be done by the Technology Department.

A personal protective case may be added to the device if not provided by the school, but should not cover the identification labels or asset tags on the device, nor should those be moved to the protective case. A clear case would be suggested and must be for the specific model of device.

Originally Installed Software
The device will come with pre-installed district approved software that must remain on the device until the district determines otherwise.

Inspection
Students may be selected at random to provide their device for inspection. The purpose of inspection will be to check for proper care and maintenance as well as adherence to district policies.

Device Identification
The District will maintain records of all devices that include:

The serial number and asset tag and which student they are assigned to.
Each device and charger will have an asset tag to identify the owner.

Under no circumstances are students to modify.
