📢 Important Update for Summer Lunch Distribution 📢
To support our community during this time, we will be extending our summer lunch distribution at OES from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, instead of ending at 12:30 pm. This extension allows everyone the opportunity to attend Mr. Scholes' services and still pick up summer lunch meals.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

Talk about amazing community partnerships! This spring, OES and OMS hosted book fairs put on by our wonderful, local independent bookstore, Book Vault. The book fair was able to get hundreds of books into the hands of our students, and we raised $3,000 worth of credit to be spent at Book Vault!
Our fantastic Teacher Librarians, Liz Good and Rebecca Bock, got to go on a spectacular shopping spree at Book Vault this week. Oskaloosa Community Schools is incredibly lucky to have such fantastic community partnerships, like the one with Book Vault! 📚

This last trimester, our OES school counselors piloted a new program, Big Buddy, Little Buddy! It is a student mentoring program where selected 5th graders are matched up with Kindergarten and 1st grade students. The goal is to provide supportive role models to encourage healthy relationships and positive choices. As you can see from the photos, it was a big success! We are excited to do it again next year! 🫶🏼

REMINDER: On Friday, May 24, dismissal will take place at 2:15pm. Please note that due to the 5th Grade Graduation event from 12:30 to 1:40pm, we will have parents and family members gathered in the Driveline loops to celebrate their students. Therefore, BOTH Driveline loops must remain CLEAR until 1:40pm. We appreciate your cooperation!

🎉 Congratulations to our OES students who earned "Student of the Month" during May! Keep up the great work, Indians! ✨ #OskyBuildsLeaders

Last week's Dining at the Ritz featured stars from the Oskaloosa Baseball team. ⚾️ They enjoyed a lunch outside with beautiful weather! ☀️🍽️

The last stop for OES staff was France! OES staff members enjoyed a delicious cup delivered to them courtesy of Amber Coffey at Edward Jones. 🇫🇷🧀

The destination on Thursday of Staff Appreciation Week was China for appetizers donated by HyVee! OES staff also enjoyed an "in flight snack and beverage" delivered to them courtesy of Mahaska Health and Mahaska Bottling! 🇨🇳🥢

Last Tuesday, OES staff traveled to Italy for a pizza lunch provided by First Christian Church. Also, staff members played human scrabble, where they formed words to score points! Since our destination was Italy, winners scored coupons for gelato (ice cream) donated by Frosty Udder and Sno Biz. 🇮🇹🍕

On Wednesday, Destination Appreciation took OES staff to Mexico! Our staff enjoyed a delicious taco bar for Staff Appreciation Week, thanks to Clow Valve Company. 🌮🇲🇽

Last week, we kicked off teacher and staff appreciation week at OES with Destination Appreciation! Our first stop was England. Special thanks to our PTO, who served our staff with a scrumptious breakfast! ☕️🧇

On Monday of Staff Appreciation Week, OES staff had another stop in England for tea and biscuits, which were Girl Scout cookies generously donated by the Wilker family!

On Friday, The Bridge Church gifted our 3rd grade students with a free pair of tennis shoes, socks, and flip flops. This is a project they offer in each community they serve.
"We target May because a lot of kids get shoes going into the school year, and we want them to have shoes they can enjoy for summer," said Oskaloosa Campus Pastor Darik Kooistra. "We do our shoe giveaway every year, so our goal is to give them to next year's 3rd graders too!"
Mrs. Roe and her students read the book "Those Shoes" by Maribeth Boelts prior to the shoe giveaway to connect their learning to the shoe giveaway activity. 👟🩴

👮♂️ Lunchtime fun with Officer Nord! Our kindergarten students had a blast during Lunch Bunch. 🎉

We had an amazing book fair, partnering with Book Vault! We sold $6,150, and there were $177 in donations to the OES Library. This means that through the book fair, the OES library raised $2,760 worth of credit that can be used to purchase new books through Book Vault!
What a great turnout and a spectacular partnership! Last year, our Book Vault book fair was able to put 256 books into the hands of students. This year, we were able to get 762 books into the hands of our students. How amazing! 📚

🎻 Get ready for an evening of music at the 4-8th grade Spring Orchestra Concert on Thursday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the George Daily Auditorium! 🎶 Bring your friends and family for the performance and don't forget to bring your generosity too - we'll be collecting free will donations to support the Oskaloosa Orchestra Department. All are welcome to join in the musical fun! See you there! 🎼

This week's Lunch Bunch with Officer Nord featured 2nd grade students. The students were given the opportunity to eat lunch and spend quality time with Officer Nord! 🍎👮♂️
