In art class, OES 3rd graders have been working on their 3-Dimensional Unit, including paper mache, paper sculptures, and ceramics! It culminated on April 4th and 5th with a field trip to check out the Oskaloosa Sculpture Tour and a visit to the Oskaloosa Art Center. Our tour consisted of a walking portion around the square and a bus tour around town. Photographed is Mrs. Roberts' class with Ascender by Matt Moyer.

OES is proud of its long-standing partnership with United Way of Mahaska County. The partnership started in 2013, when OES was selected by United Way as one of the first sites to bring the Reading Corps tutoring program to Iowa. The Reading Corps program places AmeriCorps members, trained as literacy tutors, at schools across Iowa to provide tutoring to students who are just below proficiency in reading.
Thanks to the yearly community investment grant award from United Way, the Reading Corps program has grown from one tutor to three. There are 65-70 students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade who benefit from tutoring each school year.
OES was recently awarded a grant for the 2024-2025 school year. We want to thank the United Way of Mahaska County for supporting the Reading Corps tutoring program at OES!

🌟 Dining at the Ritz: Week 19 🌟
Our guests were the OHS Soccer Teams! OES students enjoyed their time spent with the student athletes. We would like to thank our sponsor for this week, Tasos!

We are partnering with Book Vault for our Book Fair again, which means funds do double duty! The funds will support local small businesses as well as the library, with a portion of every sale being returned to purchase books for the OES library.
The Book Fair will be open during parent/teacher conferences. Books will be cash and carry, but order forms are available if you cannot make the conference times. Cash, check, and Venmo will be accepted.
Come browse the selection of books available and help contribute to a great cause!

This week, some 3rd grade students had the fantastic opportunity to share a meal and quality time with Officer Nord. Congratulations to our lucky students! 🎉

Last Friday's Dining at the Ritz was extra special, with the Easter Bunny hopping in as our guest of honor! The students were thrilled, with smiles all around. A huge shoutout to Mahaska Drug for sponsoring the event for week 17. Thank you for making it a memorable day for these Osky students! 🐰🥕

This week, our hearts were warmed by volunteers from The Bridge Church, who visited our OES 3rd graders for something special! Volunteers took the shoe sizes of every 3rd grader because they're gifting each student with a new pair of shoes, socks, and flip-flops, set to be received in May. It's acts of kindness like these that truly make a difference. We're deeply thankful for The Bridge Church's generous spirit! 🎁👟🧦

This month, Mrs. Archer's and Ms. Brown's classes had a blast participating in the HyVee Kid Fit Challenge! Huge thanks to Oskaloosa HyVee for providing our students with nutritious snacks, cool Croc charms, and water bottles. Keeping our young minds and bodies active and nourished! 💪🍎💧

Attention Families of OES Students! Circle April 26 on your calendars because something special is happening at Oskaloosa Elementary! 🗓️✨

🥪 March Lunch Bunch with Officer Nord! 🥪 A select group of students got the chance to share their lunchtime with Officer Nord. Everyone had a great time!

✨ On Thursday, our OES entrance was transformed into a bubble wonderland to celebrate Absolutely Incredible Kid Day! Watching the joy and wonder on the students' faces as they walked through a cascade of bubbles was truly a sight to behold. What a magical start to the day! 💫

Recently, Jill DeBruin from the local Farm Bureau visited Ms. Evans' 4th grade class. She presented to the students about agriculture, the life cycle of chickens, and their importance!

Today, Amie and Dave Breuklander visited OES kindergarteners in Ms. Lemke's class to teach them about World Down Syndrome Day. Amie and David read a story about how kids with Down syndrome are more like all of us than different. They also gave goodie bags to each kindergarten student, and the students loved receiving their mismatched socks. It was a great day celebrating a very special girl!

Some of Ms. Evans’ 4th grade students that are in orchestra wanted to learn and perform the Happy Birthday song. So when it was a student's birthday, they could play it for everyone to sing along! This was very special and fun for the students!

🍪 A Sweet Gesture! Kallie, one of our OES students, spread joy with a donation of Girl Scout cookies to our hardworking staff. Your kindness is truly appreciated, Kallie! 🙌

Miss Trainer's 2nd grade class enjoyed making butter to end Module 2 of Wit and Wisdom. Module 2 was all about life in the early American West, so making butter went hand in hand with the curriculum.
