Our OMS Makerspace was smelling a lot like... cardboard today!
Kicking off the first pilot use of soon to be finished Mr. Scholes Dream Lab, Mrs. Pierson and our enriched math students stepped into the roles of "Structural Pastry Chefs" to design and build 3D cake models. There’s a lot more than just glue holding these masterpieces together: the use of scrum methodology turns abstract math into tangible results while directly cultivating skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and coachability.

Something GLOWING was happening in 6th Grade today!
Our sixth grade teachers turned off the lights to turn on the learning. As the intrigue came from transforming their classrooms into a Neon Glow Room, the real brightness and engagement came from our students' incredible collaboration and brains. Today, 6th graders took a deep dive into texts using blacklights and neon highlighters, and a targeted focus to master identifying the Main Idea.

Our 8th grade literature students spent part of their day yesterday at the Oskaloosa Public Library! This visit allowed our students to step beyond the classroom and see firsthand the wealth of resources and quiet study spaces available right here in our community. By visiting the library, students learned how to navigate the physical stacks, explore local history archives, and understand the logistics of borrowing materials.

Mr. Richardson’s FCS students were "whisking" through their culinary lab this week! From kneading dough to simmering the perfect gravy, these students are proving they’ve got what it takes to master classic comfort food.
If you see an FCS student today, ask them for their secret to a fluffy biscuit! 👨🍳👩🍳

Our 8th graders hit the ground running after winter break! In Mr. Sterner and Mr. Knoot’s American History classes, students didn't just read the Constitution—they "memed" it.
Each student became a subject-matter expert on a specific Amendment, creating original memes to translate complex historical language into something everyone can understand. Students then led a high-tech "Gallery Walk," using their devices to teach their peers the significance of each right.
Who knew learning the Bill of Rights could involve this much creativity?

Last week, Mrs. Nelson’s classroom transformed into a headquarters for Laurenna A.’s lemonade delivery service.
Laurenna worked hard all week to master the art of the startup. She didn't just make a drink; she managed the entire workflow—branding, production, and financial tracking.
Excellent work, Laurenna!
