A full-circle moment at OMS! ✨
Wesley Nelson, a current 8th grader, was recognized as Student of the Trimester last school year as a 7th grader. He poses with Dr. VanDevender, language arts teacher, who earned the same honor 17 years ago as an OMS 8th grader.
What a great example of tradition, excellence, and inspiration continuing through the years! 🏆

OMS held an all-school badminton tournament for 6th grade and 7th/8th grade! 🏸
There were 17 teams for 6th grade and 27 for 7th/8th grade. Bryson Maddy and Dhruv Patel won the 6th grade division, and Jack Miller and Collin Netland won the 7th/8th grade division.
Thank you to Hawkeye Real Estate and ReMax for their donations of badminton sets for each student! 🌟

Congratulations to our last group of Positive Office Referrals (POR) for the 2024-25 school year! Students are awarded a POR for embodying the core values of our PBIS program: respect, responsibility, safety, and caring. 🥳
PORs are proof of our dedication to creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment. We extend our appreciation to these students for their exceptional behavior and for being role models within our school community.

That's GREEK to ME!
Last week, OMS 7th graders enjoyed a GREEK FEAST sponsored by Oskaloosa Vision. They have been studying the world of Greece and the art of mythology.
Having the opportunity to try some Greek favorites was a great opportunity for our students!

The Oskaloosa Lions Club has donated a popcorn machine and supplies to OMS. We greatly appreciate their generosity! 🍿🫶

Everyone at OMS sure feels appreciated! ❤️

In addition, Bates Funeral Home sponsored a charcuterie lunch extravaganza, and Kelderman Mfg. sponsored a Lotus Bar for our afternoon Wednesday PLC. Our community loves OMS—and we sure appreciate them too! 🫶

Our OMS teachers and staff are SUNSATIONAL! ☀️

A big congratulations to our students recognized with Positive Office Referrals for the month of April! Your outstanding behavior and positive actions set the standard for what makes our school community so special. 🎉
These referrals showcase our commitment to building a supportive and uplifting environment. Thank you for leading by example and inspiring your peers through your kindness and hard work! 👏

ISASP testing is happening this week at OMS! Here are a few reminders to help your student feel prepared and supported:
📌 Please ensure your student arrives at school by 8:10 a.m. so testing can begin promptly. Students who arrive late may need to complete make-up testing later in the day, which could result in missed class time.
📌 Make sure your student’s Chromebook is fully charged at home and ready to go each morning.
📌 Encourage your student to get a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast. Our food service team continues to offer nutritious breakfast options each morning, and we’ll also have snacks and water available during testing.
📌 Remind your student to take their time and do their best. A positive attitude can go a long way!
Let’s have a great testing week!

Shoutout to OMS student Gibson for going above and beyond! 🎉
An elementary parent reached out to our office to share how Gibson helped an elementary student make it home safely after school.
We love hearing stories like this that reflect the kind, respectful, and responsible students we have at OMS! If you see our students showing positive behavior, reach out to our office. We’d be proud to recognize them! 🙌

We're proud to recognize our students who set the bar high and received Positive Office Referrals during the month of March! 🌟
Positive Office Referrals are one of the many ways we recognize students to promote and maintain a positive culture of learning. Thank you to these Osky students for shining brightly and setting a great example! 🎉

Our Team 7/8 students went #ALLIN to celebrate their amazing science teacher, Mrs. Nannenga, as she gets ready to welcome her baby boy! 👶
From a heartfelt poster to creatively decorated diapers, the love and excitement were everywhere—keeping Mrs. Nannenga smiling all day! 💙

Yesterday, our 6th-grade students dove into an exciting Science and Reading Carnival! They explored chemical and physical changes, made meaningful reading connections, and observed science in action. Hands-on learning brought both science and literature to life, making for an unforgettable day of discovery! 🚀📚
Thank you to 6th grade parents, Hy-Vee, and Mahaska Drug for their donations and also to our wonderful parent volunteers! None of this could have been possible without you! ❤️
