Today, a former student of Oskaloosa, Chris Fink, visited the OMS German class taught by Christopher Ellerston in order to convey to students his experiences at home and abroad. We are very grateful for Mr. Finkās visit and appreciate him sharing his experiences with our students about the benefits of traveling abroad and knowing a second language.Ā
Yesterday morning, members of the OMS staff reenacted the characters from the holiday hit "The 12 Days of Christmas" in front of the OMS student body. The students thoroughly enjoyed seeing staff put themselves out there for the event, and the staff had a great time putting on the show!

Our OMS 6th-8th grade band performed two Christmas numbers today in the George Daily Auditorium. More than 180 students! Enjoy their versions of "Christmas Classic" and "Santa the Barbarian"!

On Tuesday, Central Reformed Church, led by Jon Nelson, provided the OMS staff with coffee and treats to start their day. We are very appreciative of Central Reformed Church for their thoughts and generosity towards our middle school staff this holiday season!

On Wednesday, the OMS were provided with breakfast by Hy-Vee. Special thanks to Tami Vanwyk and Clayton Spears for their generous donation of breakfast to our staff this holiday season. We appreciate our partnership immensely!
Yesterday, OMS staff engaged in a fun game called Peppermint in Your Pocket. Three random staff members were provided with a peppermint at the beginning of the day. As the day progressed, staff members had to ask other staff members if they had a peppermint in their pocket. If the staff member had the peppermint, they had to surrender it to the asking staff member. At the end of the day, whichever three staff members still had a peppermint in their pocket came to Principal Scholes for a prize. This was a funny activity that involved all staff members throughout the building, giving them an opportunity to socialize with one another. Our three winners were Laura Brummel, Stacie Drake, and Kiersten Sutton. Congratulations to them, and thanks to all for taking part in this fun event!

Staff at OMS were treated to a wonderful charcuterie board today, which was put together by OMS 6th Grade Teacher Jennifer Arnold. The charcuterie board was made possible through a generous donation by Dr. Molly Walker and Dr. Daniel Foster from Oskaloosa Vision Center. We are grateful to Dr. Walker, Dr. Foster, and Mrs. Arnold for making this wonderful event happen!

OMS is embracing the holiday spirit with the Spirit of Giving, and we have exciting opportunities for our students! While we may not meet every need, we're dedicated to doing all we can during this special time of year. One way we involve the whole school is by giving students a chance to win gift bags through acts of kindness and community service.

Oskaloosa Public Schools received grief kits from Brooklyn Hayes, funded by a grant from Mahaska CPPC (Community Partnerships for Protecting Children) in collaboration with Mahaska KIND. š
These kits, designed to help children and teens process various types of grief, contain books covering topics such as pregnancy and infant loss, the loss of a loved one, suicide, SIDS, NICU experiences, and guidance on discussing death with curious children. š«¶
Each grief kit includes tools, activities, coloring pages, fidget items, handouts for parents, information about support groups, art supplies, and journal prompts. The kits also provide school staff with resources to better assist students dealing with grief.
Thank YOU, Brooklyn Hayes, for your donation! š
