Last week, OMS students and staff wore purple to show their love and support for Lupus Awareness. Knowing not everyone had purple to wear, they got creative with face paint!
8th-grade student CC Chisolm shared her daily struggles living with Lupus, describing it as feeling sick every day with varying levels of pain, discomfort, and exhaustion that can make daily activities challenging.
"Unfortunately, autoimmune diseases aren’t easily understood unless you have one yourself, simply because the symptoms are not necessarily seen but rather just felt," explained Mrs. Goodman.
At the end of the day, CC expressed that she had the best day and felt grateful to attend Osky.
It's safe to say she felt the love. 💜 #ALLIN #OskyBuildsLeaders

Yesterday, 8th grade parents rewarded OMS staff with a taco bar and delicious sweets. We'd like to thank our parents for their overwhelming support of our teachers and staff! We value our collaboration and realize that we would not be able to achieve the accomplishments we do at Osky Schools without it. 🫶🏼

Yesterday, OMS kicked off Staff Appreciation Week with an All-Star Breakfast for All-Star Staff! Thank you to the Oskalossa Hy-Vee and Clayton Spears, Director of Oskaloosa's Hy-Vee, for the generous contribution. This was a very enjoyable experience for our staff!

Please join us in congratulating our students who received Positive Office Referrals throughout the months of March and April! 🎉 Students receive these referrals for demonstrating our 4 PBIS Components: Respect, Responsibility, Safety, and Caring. The teacher each student is pictured with completed the referral.
Positive Office Referrals are one of the many ways we recognize students to promote and maintain a positive culture of learning. THANK YOU to these awesome students for setting a great example and helping end the school year on a positive note! 🥳

Earlier this week, OMS and Oskaloosa Schools hosted parent/teacher conferences. OMS held their conferences in a student-led model, where students presented evidence to their families covering work and engagement they gained over the course of the school year.
A book fair was held in conjunction with our conferences, giving students and their families an opportunity to purchase various books that students had an interest in. The OMS Cooking Club also provided dinner to staff on Thursday evening, giving our students a chance to demonstrate their cooking skills over the course of the school year.
Lastly, in order to create a very welcoming environment, a coffee truck was on site during conferences, giving families and staff the opportunity to have an enjoyable beverage as they listened to their children present. Thank you to everyone who helped make the week a success!

On Monday, Shawn Garrison with Details Executive Cleaning of Oskaloosa visited Mr. Sterner's first period history class to give each 8th grade student the ability to take home their own pocket constitution. Shawn talked about how the average constitution lasts for 17 years, but ours has been standing strong for over 240 years.
Shawn shared with the students, "It is important for you as young adults to know why we have this document. This is why you are able to go to school, hang out with friends, and go home and sleep in peace." Thank you, Shawn, for sharing about the document that governs our nation!

Last Thursday, the OMS Manufacturing and Chess Clubs had the privilege of having Matt Larson from Iowa Wood Products visit with them about jobs and how treated lumber is treated. All the students were engaged in asking many questions. Thank you, Matt and Iowa Wood Products, for this great learning opportunity!
